Space Clearing: Clearing and Managing Negative Energies in Your Home​

To quote my teacher:

 

“Space clearing requires more than a stick of sage and a match.”

​

I’ll add to that
 

“space clearing is easy if you don’t know how”, or to paraphrase, “all you have to do is …”

​

Let's see if these two statements are true.

There are two main categories of energetic space clearing that I see in my practice: Simple and Complex. Even “simple” space clearing can have a great many moving parts. 

​

In the case of “Simple”, space clearing and energy management means dissolving negative energy and difficult Fields. Clearing out the accumulated detritus, as it were. 

​

When ensouled, sentient Beings are involved, we move into the arena of “Complex” energetic space clearing. This type of energetic ‘disturbance’ takes longer to unpack, figure out, and treat.

​

Simple Energy Clearing and Management of a Space

Energy collects in your space just like dust does: it swirls in over time and settles there. You need to do some periodic maintenance to keep it under control. When you don’t, you get major energetic dust bunnies and built up energetic crud. Built-up crud, either regular or energetic, is harder to clean.

 

Energy attracts more of its own type of energy

Once the energetic dust start to form, you end up getting more of that. If you’ve ever cleaned a dis-used room of old, caked-on dirt that’s hardened into something weird, you get the picture: energy can be the same.

 

Energy and Spaces are Dynamic. Conditions are Constantly Changing

Just as in ordinary reality, a room doesn’t stay clean and tidy on its own. The energy of a space is exactly the same; it shifts over time. People move in and out of a space, imprinting and saturating the area with whatever is in their field. Disagreements and fights happen, happy things happen. Daily cycles happen. Natural disasters happen. Sleeping happens. Weeping happens. Wind and rain blow through cracks from the outside. All of these events leave lasting imprints and soak in. 

 

In these simple cases, space clearing is relatively easy; we clear, and we bless, and we invite pristine, divine energies to arrive to keep things sparkling fresh.

From here, things get a little more involved, and we move into discussing the “complex” category of space clearing.

​

A story about a (simple) complex space clearing

Once upon a time, when I was a massage therapist and newly minted shamanic practitioner, my massage practice was located inside a huge regional cancer treatment center in North Alabama. As in 250,000+ square feet huge. Knowing what I knew then about space clearing, I did my best with the tools and understanding that were at my disposal at the time. And, I couldn’t, for the life of me, keep our suite cleared! I had to clear multiple times a day. Whatever I did, the “energetic weather” just rolled in. 

 

The bigger picture of our massage business and suite looked like this:

Our office was on the 2nd of three floors. Our 1,000 square feet were interior with no windows. There were treatment offices below us, on three sides of us, and above us. The center saw about 500 patients a day. Their families often came with them. An average of 2 to 3 people died there a month while undergoing treatment, which is about normal. 

 

So. Imagine 500 cancer patients a day, many of whom are in anxiety and distress. They also had family members, sometimes a LOT of family members with them who were also in distress and anxiety for their loved ones. Some of those very patients were our massage clients (we had special cancer massage training and were there because of that). Those patients were often on chemotherapy and radiation, both of which lower a person’s energetic defenses. These clients who came in often brought possessing spirits with them who had used the lowered energetic defenses as an opportunity to ‘move in’. And these people were right on our tables, becoming even more vulnerable and open as we massaged them. We were literally suspended in the heart of the building and right in the midst of its treatments, many of which brought patients very near death (or beyond) before healing could occur.

Sometimes External Factors are Big and Powerful

That’s a big-ass Field of energy to keep at bay every day, or even every hour. (Remember, I did say I resorted to clearing this space several times a day). Even now, a decade and a half later and with LOADS of experience and better energy management tools, I’d be VERY hard-pressed to clear that space and keep it cleared. I’m not sure it could even be done at all. 

 

All to say, the success of clearing and managing the negative energies of a space with complexity depends entirely on what external factors and forces occupy and move through that space regularly.

Factors Which Introduce Complexity to Space Clearing and Energetic Maintenance of a Space

• We don’t kick out or banish Beings who are already there. If they are restless dead, we can bring them help via compassionate depossession.

• Is there a curse on the land? Does that curse anchor any Beings there? If so, we might do some curse unraveling to assist. 

• What does the signature of the land support? Do the Land Spirits also support? Are they in agreement with your space being right in their living room? 

• Are there Beings who were here before you who still live there and share space? If so, have you opened up a discussion with them about living alongside them? Here in Western NC, we have remnants of wilderness and old-growth forest. Because of this, we also have intact communities of land spirits, Fey, and Nature spirits. Just because you bought land and built a house doesn’t mean that they’re going to be happy about it.

• Are there restless dead in the mix? In Huntsville, I lived right across the street from the Civil War portion of a cemetery. I had a lot of ‘visitors’. A client of mine, also in Huntsville, happened to rent a house which was smack in the middle of one of the land trails used for the Indian Removals of the 1830s, the Trail of Tears. We could not keep that house cleared of restless spirits; new spirits showed up within days of clearing the last one. 

• Is the space underground? Did it used to be underwater? 

• Does the space have odd geometry? That is, is it an odd shape? Anchoring a new energetic pattern can be a challenge in a space like this.

• Does the space have a history of contentious owners or renters who lived there before you? Is there a history of violence there, or worse?

 

Can you see how just burning sage won’t fix these issues? 

And there is nothing wrong with sage! I love it. I also use it. It’s just not the only tool you need. 

 

All to say, if negative energies in your space are affecting you and you would like to have that addressed, begin by purchasing a pre-clearing space reading and energy report. • Purchase a space reading and energy survey report. I’ll take a look to see what’s going on with your space.

• I’ll reach out to you to schedule a time when we can discuss what I found. During this discussion, you can choose whether to continue on with a space clearing or not. 

• If you choose to continue, we will schedule at least 2 sessions to clear and mitigate the negativity.
