The Benefits of Intentional Mediumship

I believe that all humans inherently possess mediumistic skills. It's just built-in! When we begin to understand and hone these built-in mediumistic skills, mediumship becomes a powerful tool.
I started my mediumship training with Betsy Bergstrom in April of 2011. In that multi-day residential training, we students were introduced to working with a gatekeeper spirit who helps create an etheric structure, enabling safe mediumship when done in a conscious way. While many people are natural mediums and can converse with spirits, having a gatekeeper and a structure in place is invaluable for filtering and fine-tuning one's experience. I've been teaching and practicing mediumship with Beings ever since.
What are the benefits of an intentional mediumship practice?
The most important benefit I've received from an intentional mediumship practice is in building relationships with the Helping Spirits. It's also a great way to meet new allies, deities, and spirits of place to find out how they can help you and what abilities they can bring to the table. It's one thing to read extensively about a mythological Being; it's quite another to actually meet and talk with them.
Through mediumship, I have met my local Psychopomp Beings, those who work to help shepherd souls to their rightful next destination. They facilitate the death process, helping spirits transition from this Middle World realm to whatever is next for them. In my tiny mountain town, a local funeral home houses the only morgue with a cooler, which services two counties. A colleague and I tuned in to meet the local Psychopomp Beings who might be there supervising and watching over the death processes for the humans. Imagine our surprise when we discovered a whole network of Psychopomp Beings working in concert to assist all kinds of Beings in our area, from plants to animals to humans and even for Otherworld Beings. These conversations and relationships are essential for my practice.
I've also met Deities, Gods, and Goddesses through mediumship. In that first mediumship training in 2011, one of the first compassionate Beings whom we met was Green Tara. The impact and immediacy of that meeting are still with me today, fifteen years later as I write this. Green Tara sadhanas are also now a part of my regular spiritual practice.
Refinements of an intentional mediumship practice
The refinements that mediumship training and Intentional mediumship practices have brought to me are control and understanding. Before I began my training, spiritual Information and visits from Beings would happen willy-nilly. They were hard, if not impossible, to manage on my own.
With training, I've gained control. I have not been able to shut down my mediumistic abilities, but I have given myself control over when and how information comes to me. Through steady practice, my energetic structure has strengthened and integrated conditions for when and where a meeting with a Being may occur. It's on my terms now.
In all of my years of working with sensitive and empathic clients, I have not found any effective way to dampen or stop spiritual energies from arriving. What I have found is that if you are a sensitive person, the more control you have, the better you can manage the energies that surround you. Control, habit, and the building of a new energetic structure are the keys.
